Terme Merano’s sauna area: a hot tip for all sauna enthusiasts

2,200 m2 to sweat, cool down, and relax – 365 days a year

This is what a sauna session in our outdoor sauna can feel like.

The warm air hits your face as you immerse yourself in the soothing scent of pine. The sauna master skillfully wields a towel around the sauna stove, intensifying the heat. The ice balls melt away on the hot stones, releasing a richer pine fragrance. You reach your limits, but the feeling of relaxation that follows is worth every drop of sweat.

If you’re feeling inspired to experience it for yourself, you can check out the current schedule of our “Aufguss” here.

The unique sauna area in South Tyrol offers a special experience with every visit. Whether you choose the South Tyrolean bio hay sauna, the steam bath, or the Finnish sauna, each option promises a unique experience. Depending on your heat preference, you can relax in the steam bath while admiring the flowing Passer River or enjoy the aroma of hay flowers as you observe traditional haymaking.

Our sauna is an "adults only" and textile-free zone, open to both women and men (ages 14 and up).
Children under 14 are not permitted. Teens aged 14 to 18 may use the sauna only when accompanied by an adult.

Please note: towel and slippers are mandatory in the sauna area.

7 special highlights you won’t find anywhere else in Merano

#1
Finnish sauna with multi-level wooden benches and red backlighting at Terme Merano

The South Tyrolean bio hay sauna (45-60 °C, 30-50 % humidity): Immerse yourself in the ambiance of a traditional South Tyrolean hay bath, where you can watch farmers engaging in the age-old practice of hay harvesting. At lower temperatures than a classic sauna, the essential oils in the hay are released, filling the air with a wonderfully floral scent that invigorates the senses.

#2
Black designer hand shower with stone sculpture and honeycomb decor in the sauna area at Terme Merano

The South Tyrolean honey steam bath (42-45 °C, 100 % humidity): Relaxing music, the buzzing of bees, and the sweet aroma of honey create a serene atmosphere. It feels as if you're nestled inside a beehive while enjoying a deep-cleansing honey scrub.

#3
Couple relaxing in the steam bath at Terme Merano with purple LED lighting and natural stone

The “Passerstein” steam bath (42-45 °C, 100 % humidity): This steam bath is ideal for preparing for a sauna session with higher temperatures. While the rivulets of sweat make their way across your skin, you can watch the water ripple in the river Passer.

#4

The Roof Whirlpool with Sundeck: The 17 metre long whirlpool on the sunny terrace with a view of the palm trees in the sauna garden is particularly popular with our guests. There are plenty of loungers to enjoy the sun on the adjoining Sundeck.

#5
Icicles and snow on railing in winter mountain landscape near Terme Merano

The snow room (-10 °C): The dry cold at -10 °C provides a particularly gentle way to cool down your body after a sauna session. You can stay in the snow room for up to 15 minutes. If that feels too long, you can also rub yourself with snow for a quick refreshment.

#6
Couple in towels relaxing in the bio sauna at Terme Merano with wood paneling and window view

The Finnish sauna (90–100 °C & 85–90 °C, 10 % humidity): Terme Merano offers two Finnish saunas: a large sauna in the outdoor area accommodating up to 100 people and a smaller one inside. Both saunas provide the authentic Finnish sauna experience.
